Performance of SIX the Musical

I received a fair amount of feedback on my performance in our teen production of Six, between my parents, my teachers and my peers. A few areas I’ve definitely improved on during our the time we have put into our production of Six is a variation of my dance technique including my fluidity in my movements and sequences, my characterisation and my extension in movements.  For instance, for myself personally, dancing is not my strongest assets so actually having to put the choreography in practice while learning it started off as a struggle. However with daily rehearsals at college, I managed to pick up most of the choreography and became so confident with the sequences and how I’m transitioning into the next movement. This really helped in the delivery of the performance because it was clear I wasn’t worrying about the choreography and how I was going to perform it in the next number.  I

Task1: Rehearsal log for SIX

EX WIVES REHEARSALS  EX Wives Rehearsal 1:    https://youtu.be/zZt2l-pTsxQ   This was our firs ever dance rehearsal of Ex- Wives. It was a successful first rehearsal as we all became pretty confident with the choreography quite quickly however we were yet to find out, who the wives were so in the next rehearsal, the next week, all of our spacing changed. I believe that I could look more excited and confident with my movements in this rehearsal however this will come over time as we polish the dance. Strengths from rehearsal:  Confident in Movement Memory.  Confident in placement of movements - precision.  Areas of Development:  Need to work on my Extension - making sure I finish all the movements  Target from Rehearsal:  Extension within the body on each movement. To do this successfully, I need to rehearse with the music, I need to practice everyday and in front of the mirror.  EX WIVES Rehearsal 2 This next rehearsal was our first...

Task 1: Key Features of Jazz Dance

Image
The style of Jazz was introduced during the era of the slave trade. Slaves were being transported from Africa to America during the 16th century to the 19th century. A prominent reason slaves were unwilling brought to America was because of a triangular trade. This meant that textiles and wine were shipped from Europe to Africa, enslaved people from Africa to America and sugar and coffee from America to Europe. Music and dance of African origin formed the starting point for Jazz as during the slavery period African dance developed into African - American jazz dance culture. This was due to the mixing of the different cultures and the slaves originally mocking the American style of entertainment and adding their own heritage to the dance/ music. Music and dance culture of the African slaves incorporated with white plantation owners, which evolved into Jazz dance style, through the use of African ritual and celebratory dances combined with slave folk music and influences from European ha...
